The purpose of Community Cares is to match potential donors to the needs of individuals being helped by non-profit charitable organizations in our community. Community Cares will act as a clearing house to match a need with a donor. If our neighbor needs a toothbrush and soap, it will not help if we then get 100 toothbrushes donated and no soap.

Community Cares was originally set up in response to our community’s desire to help Hurricane Katrina evacuees (who are now our neighbors). RPJ Housing Development Corporation ( http://www.rpjhousing.org/) is a 501(c)(3) charitable agency founded in 1978 to preserve and develop decent, affordable housing to address the needs of limited income individuals and families and to strengthen the community. RPJ Housing is providing transitional housing for two Hurricane Katrina evacuee families at no cost for up to two years.

The needs of these two Hurricane Katrina families to start their lives again is the genesis of Community Cares. We also want to help other families in our area. All of their needs do not go away after the next disaster appears on the evening news. This is a long term effort as is the Falls Church Rotary Club’s desire to help our neighbors already in this area.
